Outer Body Panel Fabrication

This Jaguar XK120 OTS, had been converted into a 2+2 seating .... sick, I know. I used a bare uncut body to get my dimensions and make five patterns and three templates from. On the underside of the outer skin I finished down the new weld running crosswise and then with "creative license", simulated the two original welds back in....... and yes, I did sandblast the battery boxes, I just didn't take pictures of the entire project.

When finished, even I could not detect any of the reconstruction that was done. SUCCESS!!!

Rear Rollpan Modifications

This rear roll pan was purchased for a 50 Chevy stepside to give us a "head start" because it already had a license plate box and louvers. The bed rear cross member had to be modified to allow the license box to fit and to allow clearance for an aesthetic and functional tail light bucket placement. I removed the outer row of louvers and replaced with frenched tail lights. These were welded in tail light buckets to accept 41-48 Chevy lights..... with Blue Dots of course!

Once the bed was assembled, roll pan installed and tailgate in place it became apparent that the pan was designed for the truck to be able to haul and unload dirt and gravel. Being pretty confident that this trucks dirt and gravel days were forever behind it, I decided to close up the unsightly ENORMOUS, rear gap to a nice bare steel 3/16". I also moved the pan outward 1/4" so that it matched the tail gate.

The manufacturer of the pan thought that a narrow mounting flange and sheet metal screws would be sufficient on the sides of the pan, which only shows that apparently "Made in USA" sometimes means "designed by idiots". I doubled the flange width, drilled two 1/4" holes per side and welded nuts under the bed side panels to mount the pan.
